George, son of Johann and Dora Carstens Peters, was born July 30, 1901 Arcadia, Iowa. He attended schools there. As a young man George worked as a farm hand.
On March 23, 1927 George was united in marriage with Milda Wegner. Three children, Dan, Cynthia, and Dave, were born to this union. Shortly after his marriage George
Began painting and wallpapering in Manning and surrounding towns, a career that lasted over 50 years. He also served as a member of the Manning Fire Department for 37 years. George was a member of Zion Lutheran Congregation.
After his wife died in 1990, George moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. He had been in failing health since the first of the year and died at the Plaza on Saturday evening, May 13, 1995 at the age of 93 years, 9 months, and13 days.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and John (Jack); and, three sisters: Christine McMahon, Jeriena Lonseth, and Lauretta Adams.
Survivors include his children: Dan Peters and his wife, Lois, of Manning, Cynthia and her husband, Larry Genzen, of Manning; and Dave Peters and his wife, Deanna, of Plano, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen Petersen, of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
George enjoyed visiting and playing cards with his friends. His grandchildren were special to him.
