Services Held For Freeland B. Valentine

Freeland Valentine, son of Simon and Alice (Zobrist) Valentine, was born March 17, 1905, at Highland, Illinois. He died June 18, 1977, at St. Luke's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.

In February, 1915 he came to Mapleton, Iowa, with his parents and lived there until he graduated from high school with the class of 1923. He then attended a business school before going to Ute, Iowa, to work in the Saba Saba Bakery.

When Saba Saba moved to Jefferson, Iowa, and operated a bakery, he worked in Jefferson Bakery until 1932 when he and his wife moved to Manning, Iowa, and operated a bakery of their own until his retirement in 1970 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

He married Anna Lucille Patrick in 1927. Two children were born to this marriage, Patty Jane now Mrs. H.H. Johnston of Phoenix, Arizona, and Major Roland M. Valentine of Tucson, Arizona.

Services were held June 20, 1977, at Phoenix, Arizona, with Rev. Paul D. Urbano officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Mrs. H.H.) Johnston of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, Major Roland M. Valentine of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandsons; his mother, Alice Sias of Mapleton; a sister, Mrs. Ray (Eva) Cassidy of Pompano Beach, Florida; a brother, E.B. Valentine of Le Mars, Iowa; and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his father and a niece.
