Frederick L. Podey was born on September 1, 1932, in Crawford County, the son of Frank and Ruth (Marshal) Podey. He died Thursday evening, April 25, 1985, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 52.
Frederick spent his early years on his family's farm in Crawford County. He received his formal education in the Crawford County schools, graduating from the Denison High School in 1950.
Frederick was united in marriage to the former Cleone Schroeder on November 28, 1954. Together they made their home on a farm in Crawford County. In August of 1955, Frederick entered the United States Army. He completed his tour of duty in 1956 and served in the Army reserves until 1963. Frederick served as trustee for Milford Township since 1970. He was a member of the Milford Township Election Board, the Friendly Farms Club and an honorary member of the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Cleone of Denison; three daughters Lucinda, Mrs. Monte Crichton and Sandra, Mrs. Dennis NobiIing, both of Vail and Donna at home in Denison; and two sons, Lyle of Westside and Roger of Denison. Also surviving are four grandchildren; two sisters, Lois, Mrs. Gus Eckerman of Harlan and Phyllis, Mrs. Warren Lundell of Boone as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Rev. Steven Bomely officiated at the services and graveside rites. Kevin Freese served as organist with David Overstreet serving as soloist. Serving as pallbearers were Donald Healy, Joe, Siegner, Randy Healy, Tom Dalton, Joe Kral, and Virgil Hugeback. Serving, as honorary pallbearers were Edward Healy, James Miller, Marlin Aschinger, Earl Herrig, William Healy, and Virgil Denker.
Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.
