Frederick William Ohrt was born on October 19, 1900, near Manning, Iowa. He was baptized into the Holy Christian faith, as professed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the month of June 1901. He was confirmed in this faith publicly, on April 18, 1915.
On February 16, 1909, his parents, being farmers, moved from Iowa into the San Luis Valley, locating at first, east, and then later on, north of Hooper, Colorado. The young lad, however, was bent on other things. He was of the inventive type of men. And so he became a mechanic, and later on, also an accomplished electrician. At the time of his death he was a partner with Mr. Carl Jensen in the Jensen Scraper works in Monte Vista. On August 16, 1925, he was married to Miss Ruth Millis of Hooper.
He departed this life on September 27, 1930, 3:00 a.m. at the age of 29 years 11, months, and 8 days. He was laid to rest Tuesday, September 30, in the Monte Vista Cemetery.
His departure is deeply mourned by his loving wife who is inconsolable and to whom he has been a most devoted husband during their five years of happy married life; furthermore, by his darling daughter, Evelyn Ruth, who is fourteen months of age; by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ohrt, of Hooper; by his three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Hampy, of Center, Colorado, Mrs. Lewis Oldenstadt of Fountain, Colorado, Mrs. Julius Jensen, of Monte Vista, and by many more relatives and friends.
During his whole life he set an example of Christian faith. He was always happy and wherever he met people he made friends. There is no one but feels a great loss in his passing and the deepest sympathy of the community is extended to all the loved ones bereaved.
May his ashes rest in peace until the resurrection of that Great Day.
Mrs. W.M. Millis and children Fern, Eben and Galen, who left for Taos on Friday morning expecting to spend time at the San Geronimo celebration, were called home Friday evening by the serious illness of William Ohrt.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Oldenstadt and daughter Alma departed for Fountain, Colorado, Thursday morning, having been called here by the death of their brother, William Ohrt.
Another death to cause much sorrow in the hearts of Hooper and Monte Vista folks was the passing of William Ohrt, who was called to his reward at 3:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27th. He took suddenly ill on Tuesday night and was taken to the Lutheran, hospital Friday afternoon. It is thought that infantile paralysis was the cause of his death. With the exception of two sisters the entire family was at his bedside.
