Fred C.A. Steckelberg

Fredrick Christian August Steckelberg, 87, Sunrise Manor, retired employee of Sioux City Stationery, died Tuesday, September 22, 1987, in the nursing home after a long illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St., James United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ronald Unser will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today with the family present from 7-9 p.m. in Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Steckelberg was born November 19, 1899, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He lived in the Manilla, Iowa, area as a child. He also lived in Mapleton, Iowa, for 30 years and had lived in Sioux City for 27 years.

He married Hazel V. Theobald June 10, 1925, in Denison, Iowa. She died June 6, 1975, in Sioux City. He was employed by Haubrich Construction for 30 years while living in Mapleton and was employed by Sioux City Stationery for 12 years, retiring in 1972.

Mr. Steckelberg was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. While living in Mapleton, he was a member of the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Department for more than 10 years.

Survivors include two sons, Melroy J. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Robert W. of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Don (Viola) Champion of Denison; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
