Death of Mrs. Chris Tank Sr.
The death angel came to the home of Mr. Chris Tank last Sunday and called his mother to a home in heaven. Since the death of her husband nearly a year ago, her health has been failing, but her sickness did not become serious until a short time before her death. About seven months ago she left her home in Manning to make her home with her son, where every kindness that could be shown a mother was given her.
In Rendsburg, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, 81 years, 5 months and 24 days ago, Frauke Luetje was born May 1, 1828. Here she grew to strong womanhood and was courted and married to Chris Tank of the same place. In 1868 she and her husband leaving many relatives and friends started for America to make this their future home. After living four years at Davenport they moved to Benton County. Here they lived for three years, coming to Manning in 1875 to make this their future home.
Two sons and two daughters came to bless their home. They are Mr. Chris Tank, Mr. George Tank, Mrs. John Hoffman and Mrs. George Schroeder all of this community.
Tuesday a large number of friends came to the home of Chris Tank where the funeral was held, to mourn with the sorrowing relatives the loss of one so well known and loved in this community. Rev. Fauth preached a strong funeral address, after which the sorrowing relatives and friends followed the body to the Manning Cemetery where her remains was laid to rest by the side of her husband.
Dear mother in heaven with angels will live,
And dear to us ever her memory will be,
There in joy indeed which the Comforter can give,
That some day in heaven dear mother we'll see.
