FRANK "SHORTY" SEXTRO
The Rite of Christian Burial for Frank "Shorty" Sextro was held Friday, August 6, 1982, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with Reverend Msgr. Dean Walker as Celebrant.
Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Templeton, with grandchildren as casketbearers: Steve Larsen, David Robertson, Alan Robertson, Kelly Larsen, Mike Hjuler, Heath Schneider, Kevin Larsen and Criag Hjuler.
Honorary casketbearers were: G.T. Voge, Joe Hugeback,. Leo Sextro, Harry West, Fred Renze, Leroy Irlbeck, Jerry Rasmussen, Gene Schatz and Bill Weitl.
Rosaries were prayed Wednesday, August 4, 8:00 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, and 9n Thursday, August 5, at 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. Lectors were Lauri Robertson and Darcy Schneider. Gift Bearers Michelle Schneider, Jason Schneider, Greg Sextro and Kim Sextro, grandchildren.
Frank; son of Barney and Marie Wegman Sextro, was born May 10, 1904, on a farm between Manning and Templeton. He was baptized and confirmed at Templeton and attended the Templeton schools. On June 21, 1932 he was united in marriage with Lorine Eischeid by Father Bernard Eischeid at St. Augustine's Church in Halbur, Iowa.
Shorty and Lorine were fortunate enough to celebrate their golden wedding this June. They have always lived in & around Manning. They farmed part-time. Many years ago they operated the Sportsman's Club at Great Western Park just west of Manning, and they also operated the restaurant in Manning now known as Saunders Steak House.
Shorty had been in failing health for 2 1/2 years and died at the Carroll Manor Nursing Home on August 2, 1982, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 22 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John, and by one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, Lorine, and the following children: Shirley, Mrs. Larry Robertson, Manilla; Darlene, Mrs. Don Hjuler, Audubon; Pat, Mrs. Ron Larsen, Tracy, Minnesota; Dave Sextro and his wife Anne, Dow City; Mary, Mrs. Dick Schneider, Denison; Dr. Phil Sextro, and his wife Lois, Grand Island, Nebraska; and Becky, Mrs. Bill Rasmussen, Omaha; by 31 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and one brother, Ben Sextro, Manning, and by two sisters, Marie Drees, Manning, and Pauline Kerkhoff, also of Manning.
Shorty was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Manning.
