Frances Marie, daughter of Stephan "Steff" and Frances (Sturm) Billmeier, was born August 26, 1910, near Templeton, Iowa. Frances attended country school near Templeton and graduated from the eighth grade at Holy Trinity School.

On November 25, 1930, Frances was united in marriage with Edward Adam Steffes at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. This union was blessed with one son. Frances and Edward farmed near Templeton and later near Gray. Edward died November 29, 1976. Frances remained on the farm until 1994 when she moved into Gray.

She was raised as a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton and then became a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Audubon when living in that area.

On July 5, 1995, Frances became a resident of the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa, where she died Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at the age of 89 years and 5 months.

Besides her parents and husband, Frances is preceded in death by three brothers: Steve Billmeier and two brothers in-infancy; and a brother-in-law Joe Meier.

She is survived by a son Earl Steffes and his wife Vickie of Gray, a grandson Eddie Steffes of Gray, a sister Ann Meier of Manning, a brother Otto Billmeier and his wife Frances of Carroll, a sister-in-law Bertha Hoffman of Carroll, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
