Florence, daughter of Louis and Mary (Lemster) Schroeder, was born April 20, 1911, in Aspinwall, Iowa. As an infant she was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Pastor Wendt. As a young girl Florence attended Aspinwall schools and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith by Pastor Ansorge. April 5, 1933, she was united in marriage with Henry Thomssen. Their marriage took place in Denison, Iowa with Pastor Freese officiating. To this union four children were born: Darlyne, Larry, Judy and Jean. Florence and her husband farmed in the Aspinwall and Manilla area, retiring to Aspinwall. Her husband died in 1978 and Florence remained in their home in Aspinwall until she suffered a stroke in August of 1989. Later that month she became a resident of the Manilla Manor.
Florence entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison early June 4, 1990, and died there later that morning at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 15 days.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; by two brothers, William and Harry Schroeder; by two sisters, Margaret Schroeder and Emma Schilling; and by a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Lynn Klindt.
Survivors include her four children: Darlyne and her husband, Edward Dahleen, of Denison; Larry Thomssen and his wife, Rose Ann, of Manilla; Judy and her husband, LeRoy Lingle, of Manilla; and Jean and her husband, James Christensen, of Denison; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Amanda Clausen, of Aspinwall; the following sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Schroeder of Aspinwall, Merle Thomssen of Manilla, and Lester and Estella Schrum of Manilla, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Florence was a member of the Trintiy Lutheran Church in Manilla.
