Eunice Matilda, daughter of William and Ida (Grimm) Wiese, was born June 12, 1921, southeast of Manning in Carroll County, Iowa. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church near Audubon. She grew up in the Manning area, attended country school near her home, and graduated from Manning High School in 1939. Eunice then worked in the homes of area farm families.
On September 25, 1940, Eunice was united in marriage with Lester Emil Frederich Meggers at the Lutheran Church in Buck Grove. One son was born to this union. After Lester's father retired in 1942, Eunice and Lester took over the family farm west of Manning. In 1979, they stopped farming the land, but continued to raise livestock until retiring in 1993. Lester died February 6, 1999. Eunice continued living on the farm until becoming a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in May of 2012.
On Saturday, September 15, 2012, Eunice died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, Iowa. She was ninety-one years of age.
Eunice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and of the Ladies Aid. Throughout the years, she was a member of the Happy Hour Club and enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with her granddaughters.
Besides her parents and husband, Eunice was preceded in death by a brother Rockley Wiese; brother-in-law John Meggers and his wife Edna; two sisters-in-law: Anna in infancy and Malinda Erps and her husband Ed.
She is survived by her son Gene Meggers of Manilla; three granddaughters: Stephanie Meggers of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Amy Divis and husband Wayne of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Ivy Davis and husband Anthony of El Paso, Texas; four great-grandsons: Nicolas, Matthew and Brenden Hancock and Tyler Davis; a sister-in-law Dorothy Wiese of Manning; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in the Manning Heritage Park in Manning. Rev. Kurt Kaiser Pastor, Zion Lutheran Church in Denison officiating. Message in music; "How Great Thou Art", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Helen Ohde, vocalist ~ Connie Siepker, accompanist.
