ESTHER SIMPSON
Funeral services will be held for Esther Simpson, 76, of Manning and formerly of Irwin.
She was the daughter of Marius and Olina Mickelson, born September 7, 1900, at Avoca Iowa. She graduated from Irwin High School in 1919, and taught in rural schools near Irwin. She was married in 1922 to Harold W. Simpson. They lived in Harlan where he was an auto mechanic, later they farmed near Manilla and Irwin. Eventually they moved to the fawn of Irwin where he worked for the Steenhusen Implement Company, as a tractor mechanic. After his death she continued to make her home in Irwin until she moved to the Terrace Apartments when they opened in 1970, where she died suddenly Monday afternoon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and step-brother.
Mrs. Simpson is survived by the following children: Mrs. Ruth Downey, Omaha; Harold Simpson, Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Charles (Marilyn) Escher, Manning; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; also a brother-in-law, Rex Simpson of Good Hope, Illinois.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Irwin, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dick Creek officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin. Casket bearers will be grandsons; and Music by Mr. and Mrs. Woe Barry, Irwin. Arrangements are being made by Ohde Funeral Home, Manning.
