Erwin Witt
Erwin William, son of Hans William and Margaret (Martens) Witt, was born April 7, 1904, near Arcadia, Iowa. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia on May 23, 1904. The family moved to a farm north of Manning in 1907. Erwin attended country school near his home. On April 19, 1925, Erwin was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
After completing his schooling, Erwin continued to live and farm on the family farm, eventually purchasing it from his father. He lived there all his life until his retirement in 1970 when he moved into Manning. In his spare time, Erwin enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and driving around the area. Erwin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Manning.
In October of 1997, Erwin became a resident of the Carroll Manor Nursing Home where he died on Wednesday, January 7, 1998, at the age of 93 years and 9 months.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arnold, in 1962, two sisters, Edna Witt, in 1969, and Regilda Witt, in 1988, and a nephew, Dennis Witt, in 1964.
He is survived by his brother, Herbert Witt, and his wife, Beulah, of Manning; two nephews, Gary Witt and his wife, Bonnie, of Manning, and Wayne Witt and his wife, Minnie, of Carroll; two nieces, Phyllis and her husband, Ed Vanderloo, of Des Moines, and Karen and her husband, Fouad Jaber, of Lincoln, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.
