Ernest Meeves, Young Farmer, Dies Suddenly
The community was shocked and saddened Saturday morning, May 2, 1936, when word
came that Earnest Meeves had passed away in St. Anthony's hospital at Carroll,
where he had been taken for an appendectomy. Ernest took sick while at work in
the field and was taken to the hospital Wednesday and operated on that night.
He grew worse Friday and passed away Saturday morning at five o'clock with all
those near and dear to him at his bedside.
Ernest Henry Meeves, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Meeves, Sr., was born December 25, 1904, and grew to manhood on the farm south of Arion where his parents still live. He attended the Arion and Dow City schools and then assisted his parents on the farm.
He was married to Miss Anna Meggers of Manning, October 2, 1929, at that place and after their marriage they made their home on a farm across the highway from the home place where they were living at the time of his death. Two children were born to this union, Margaret Wilma, two and a half years old and Robert Ernest, two weeks old. Since his marriage Mr. Meeves had united with the Denison Lutheran Church.
Ernest was kind and courteous to all and honest and upright in every business transaction. He was a dutiful son, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a faithful friend. He leaves his devoted wife and children, parents, one sister, Mary, Mrs. Oscar Mathys; four brothers William of Elk Point, South Dakota; John of Manning; Louis and Walter of Arion, a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 5 at the Denison Lutheran church, the Rev. William Frese officiating. Special music was rendered by the Lutheran choir. Interment was in the Oakland cemetery there. Acting as pallbearers were Dan Wingrove, Jr., Jack Wingrove, Harold Kepford Ferdinand Pautsch, Sears Eggers and Walter Kruthoff.

Meeves, Mrs. Jessie Bellmeier, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Maynard of Dunlap, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meeves, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Meeves, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meeves, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Christiansen and family Mr. and Mrs. Nic Ohl, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ohl, Mr. and Mrs. August Ohl, Mr. and Mrs. George McCord, Mrs. Oscar Lehman and son Edward and family, of Denison, Henry Meeves and daughter of Ida Grove, A.J.
