Erna Helena Schultz

Erna Schultz, 91, of Post Falls went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 18, 2009. She was born June 17, 1918, in Audubon County Iowa to Adolph and Marie (Lehwald) Porsch. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in a country school near the farm.

Erna married Ray G. Schultz in Sacramento, California while Ray was stationed in the Army Air Corp on May 12, 1943. She worked as a waitress there until Ray was shipped out to the Aleutian Islands. After Ray returned and was stationed in Peyote Texas Air Base, Erna joined him there and worked as a waitress again. After her husband was discharged in 1945, they settled near her parents in her home town of Manning, Iowa. While in Manning, they started an electrical business.

June 1949 they moved to Rathdrum, Idaho, with their three children. In the mid 70s, they moved to the Twin Lakes area, then in the fall of 2001, they moved to Post Falls, Idaho.

Erna worked as a seamstress several years at Pacific Trail coat factory at Spokane Industrial Park; then retired and became a full time homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, working at her church, spending time with her family, camping and fishing with her husband. Erna was a campfire girl leader for many years.

Erna is survived by one daughter, Twyla and her husband Larry Mitson of Ephrata Washington, and two son's, Darwin and his wife Lynda of Spokane, Washington, and Rev. Myles and his wife Sharon of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She is also survived by two sister-in-Laws, Elsie, and Katie, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Erna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister's Anna, Margaret, Marie; brothers, Richard, Herman, Arnold, Otto, and three nephews.

Erna was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho as well of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Rathdrum serving as a faithful member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 25th, 2009, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church of Rathdrum with Rev. Neil Bloom officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church building fund or the Coeur d'Alene Homes.
