Erika E. Pfoltner
Erika was born in Riga, Latvia, on March 11, 1920. She was the daughter of Richard P. and Emma (Ireisler) Berzins.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Riga.
She attended the University of Riga.
She fled her homeland in 1944 ahead of the approaching Russian Army. She worked at the U.S. military installation in Germany, where she met Jurgen Harold Pfoltner. They were married on July 12, 1948. Erika came to the United States with her husband in 1948.
They served on tours of duty in Montgomery, Alabama, and in Newfoundland, before coming to Lincoln in 1960.
Erika worked as a food service technician at the University of Nebraska for several years, before retiring in 1982.
She loved to travel, and since her retirement has traveled with her husband to all the foreign continents. She also loved listening to classical music, and attended any concerts and-ballets. She also enjoyed gardening, and especially loved flowers.
The Lord blessed Erika and her husband with two daughters, Deborah and Iris.
She was a wonderful and loving grandmother to her four grandsons.
She died at home on May 8, 1987, after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband, Jurgen Harold Pfoltner; two daughters, Mrs. John (Deborah) Hendry, and Mrs. Stephen (Iris) Neukirch; one sister, Mrs. Adolfs (Mara) Petersons; four grandsons, Aaron & Chad Hendry, Andrew and Jesse Neukirch; nephews and nieces, and many other relatives and friends.
Interment will be at Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, at 3:30 pm this afternoon.
Family and Friends are invited to the church basement after the worship service for a luncheon before traveling to Manning, Iowa.
CARD OF THANKS
God's blessings to everyone attending committal services for our wife, mother
and sister, Erika (Kitty) Pfoltner, in the Manning Cemetery. Also later meeting us at the V.F.W. Hall.
Thank you for gifts of food, cards, memorials, flowers and to the good ladies
of the V.F.W. Auxiliary for handling and serving of the food. A job beautifully done.
