Friends and relatives of Mrs. Emma Thomssen were greatly shocked Saturday, January 31, when they learned that she had passed away at St. Anthony's hospital in Carroll following an operation. Funeral services were held from the Manning Lutheran church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. John M. Ansorge officiating. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers were the following nephews: Harry Lamaack, Henry Wenzel, Alfred Walters, Henry Fredericksen, Grant Fredericksen and HarryFredericksen.

Emma Aralia Kai, daughter of Henry and Siena Kai, was born on March 30, 1888, on a farm south of Aspinwall, and passed away January 31, 1948, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 1 day.

She was united in marriage on February 20, 1907, to Claus Thomssen, and to this union four children were born. Mr. Thomssen passed away September 26, 1944. The Thomssen's resided on various farms in the community and for past 11 years have resided on a farm three miles east of Manilla. A son, Merle, and daughter, Estella, had resided with their mother.

Mrs. Thomssen leaves to mourn her untimely departure, her four children, Henry of Manilla, Verna (Mrs. Peter Jurgensen) of Manilla, Merle and Estella at home; also seven grandchildren, namely, Alice, Hazel and Harold Jurgensen, Darlyne, Larry, Judy and Jean Thomssen; also four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Lamaack of Manilla, Mrs. Amanda Wenzel of Manilla, Mrs. Ida Pfoltner of Manning, Mrs. Anna Schacht of Aspinwall and Mrs. Henrietta Hagemann of Raymond, South Dakota, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her parents and one sister, Mrs. Amelia Walter, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Thomssen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She had been in failing health for the past two years.
