Emma Alvine, daughter of Hans and Mearie (Tolk) Dockweiler, was born July 29, 1880, in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended the rural schools near her home and was united in marriage with C. Fred Stammer on February 7, 1906. They farmed north of Aspinwall until retiring to Manning in 1940. Her husband passed away June 15, 1946, and Emma continued to make her home in Manning. A few weeks ago because of failing health, she went to the home of her daughter where she passed away quietly on Thursday noon, November 20, 1975, at the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 21 days.
Emma was the oldest member of the United Presbyterian Church of Manning, and was active in the Ladies Aid of the church. She also held membership in the Royal Neighbors, the Relief Corps and the Manning Garden Club.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant grandchildren, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
She is survived by two children: Goldie, Mrs. John Meeves, and Clarence Stammer, both of Manning; by 4 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Alvina Davis, Tripp, South Dakota, and Mrs. Mathilda Bowers, Scotland, South Dakota; and by one brother, Frank Dockweiler, Nortonville, Kansas; as well as by many other relatives and friends.
