MRS. EMMA VOSS
Mrs. Emma Christina Voss, 89, of 212 South Emmett Street, Genoa, Illinois, and mother of Mrs. Kenneth Pflaum of Genoa, died Monday, July 17, 1967, at Pine Acres Retirement Center, Dekalb. She had been making her home at Pine Acres for a month after an extended period of gradually fading health. She had fractured her hip in a fall at her home on April 26.

Mrs. Voss was born August 20, 1877, in Germany the daughter of Johannes and Anna (Claussen) Petersen. She came to the United States with her parents when seven years old and they settled near Vail, Iowa, where she attended schools and grew to womanhood.

On December 18, 1894, she was married to August Voss in Denison, Iowa. They engaged in farming in that area until 1919 when they moved to Manning, Iowa, where Mr. Voss was a dealer in cattle. He died in 1932.

In 1933, Mrs. Voss came to Genoa to make her home and has resided here since then. She was a member of the Society of Christian Service of the of the Genoa Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, George Dewey Voss of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, four daughters, Mrs. Jacob H. (Verna) Peters of St. Louis, Missouri; Grace of Cleveland, Ohio; Dorothy of Chicago; and Mrs. Kenneth (Evelyn) Pflaum of Genoa, five grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Carl Petersen of Sacramento, California; her husband's half-brother, Hans Voss of Austin, Minnesota, and his half-sister, Hertha Voss of Macomb.

She was preceded by her husband, three sisters, Anna, Helena, and Margaretha, a brother, Johannes, and a daughter, in infancy.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Cooper Funeral Horne in Genoa with Rev. James L. Houff, officiating. Interment will be on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Hayes Township Cemetery near Manilla, Iowa. Friends may call at the Cooper Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today.
