Funeral services for Emma Margareta Kathrina Noelck were held Thursday, December 13, 1984, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Paul Krumm officiated the service, with Dorothy Kusel as organist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Duane Noelck, Royce Noelck, Ivan Noelck, David Noelck, Carl Noelck, Paul Noelck, Wayne Noelck, Alan Noelck, and James Noelck as casketbearers. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Emma Margareta Kathrina Noelck, daughter of Johannes and Magdalena Koester Herrmann, was born May 9, 1897 at Brunsbüttel, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany and attended school in Germany. She came to the United States of America in 1912 at age 15, traveling alone. She came to the Arcadia area where some of her family had already settled. She worked for a farm family. It was here that she met William Johann Christian Noelck. They were united in marriage on February 10, 1915.

They farmed near Arcadia, Breda, Westside, and south of Manning. They then farmed south of Gray for 18 years before retiring to Manning in 1952. Margaret's husband passed away on February 15, 1974. Margaret continued t o make her home on the east edge of Manning until failing health forced her to move to the Bayard Care Center in Bayard, Iowa, this fall. She died there early Monday Morning, December 10, 1984, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and I day. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1974; by her son, Elmer Noelck in 1976; by one grandson; 3 great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; by four brothers: an infant, and Max, Henry, and Johannes; by three sisters: Magdalena, Christina, and Marie; a daughter-in-law, Florence, in 1983.

She is survived by four sons: Emil Noelck and his wife, Inger Marie, of Dumont, Iowa; Melvin Noelck and his wife, Alice, of Melcher, Iowa; Walter Noelck and his wife, Joan of Audubon, Iowa; and William J. Noelck of Hampton, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Inez Noelck Johnson and her husband, Dowel, of Wall Lake; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Elsie Voss of Germany, Anna Noelck of Carroll, and Dorothy and her husband, Edward Petersen, of Lake View, Iowa and Childress, Texas; a sister-in-law, Violetta Noelck of Westside.

Margaret was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.


Emma Noelck is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
