EMIL F. SCHMIDT
Emil, son of Johannes and Helena (Wiese) Schmidt, was born June 27, 1907, near Manning, Iowa. He attended country school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Except for a few years when his family lived in South Dakota, Emil had been a life-long resident of this area.

On December 7, 1932, Emil was united in marriage with Ida Vetter at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Three children were born to this union, Darlene, Larry, and Roger. They farmed near Westside, moving to Westside in 1944 where Emil was engaged in the trucking business. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Failing health forced Emil to retire in 1976.

Emil had been a resident of the Eventide Home in Denison since March 1988. He died Monday afternoon, January 23, 1989, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 27 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Hannas and Henry Schmidt; by a sister, Rosie, Mrs. Albert A. Puck; and by a grandson.

Emil is survived by his wife, Ida, of Westside; by a daughter, Darlene and her husband, Dale F. Lenz, of Denison; by two sons, Larry Schmidt and his wife, Diane, of Ida Grove and Roger Schmidt and his wife, Marlene, of Wall Lake; by eight grandchildren: Cindy and her husband, Delaine Boger; Christy and her husband, Joe Martinez; Karen Schmidt; Debra Schmidt; Kevin Schmidt; Allen Schmidt and his wife, Karen; Danny Schmidt; and Angie Schmidt; by four great-grandchildren: Amy Boger, Tony Boger, Brittany Martinez, and Dustin Martinez; by a brother, Chris Schmidt, of Manning; by a sister, Helen and her husband, Edwin Grimm, of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
