While Bathing Emil Schelldorf Loses His Life On Last Thursday Afternoon.
Thursday afternoon a sad accident occurred at Halbur, by which Emil Schelldorf lost his life. Emil and two other young boys had contemplated going swimming early in the afternoon. After awhile the two boys thought it would be better to go later on, but Emil did not wait for them, and about 1:30 he went to the pool, which is about forty rods from the Northwestern depot. Between four and five the two boys went to swim as they had planned. When they arrived at the place they found Emil's clothes hanging on the railroad bridge but did not see anything of him. They then gave the alarm and began searching and soon found the body. Just how the accident happened is not known, but it is thought that either he didn't think that the water was so deep, it being nine to ten feet deep, or he was taken with cramps.

Coroner Kessler and Sheriff Hamilton were summoned and an inquest was held, Joseph Koenig, W.J. Wagner and Joseph Reinhart composing the jury. They returned the verdict that the deceased came to his death by drowning in a swimming pool. The body was then brought to Arts' undertaking establishment and a message sent to his parents who later returned a message directing the body to be sent to Westside; where the funeral took place from the Lutheran church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock.

The unfortunate man was 22 years old and had been working for John Dose, who lives 2 1/2 miles northwest of Halbur, since last spring. He had come to town about two days prior to the accident preparatory to leaving for Meadow Lake, Washington, to visit his parents, who moved there from Westside over two years ago.

Deceased leaves his parents and three brothers, two living near Arcadia and one with his parents, to mourn his sad death.
