Emil G. Ruhde

Funeral services for Emil Ruhde were held Monday, February 10, 1992, at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Dr. Charles Curl of the United Methodist Church, Manning, officiated the service with JoAnn Karsten as organist and Craig Ruhde as vocalist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, with Don Ruhde, Allen Ruhde, Gene Phelps, Ernie Ruhde, Don Butler, and Albert Ruhde as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Jeff Sebring, Harold Reinke, Glenn Steinke, and Joe Stevens.

Emil, son of Henry and Kathryn Martens Ruhde, was born January 31, 1917, in Manning, Iowa. He attended Manning schools and was graduated with the Manning High School class of 1935.

On March 4, 1938, Emil was united in marriage with Bernice Jansen. They made their home in South Dakota where they farmed for six years. They returned to Iowa and in 1945 moved to Manning. Emil was a carpenter and first worked with Ed Hinz and later went into partnership in the carpentry business with Lyle Jahn in the early 1960s. Eleven years ago Emil retired.

His years of retirement gave Emil ample time to enjoy his favorite hobby, gardening. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor. Emil was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Emil had been in failing health this winter and was hospitalized for a short period of time. He died suddenly early Thursday morning, February 6, 1992, at the Manning General Hospital at the age of 75 years and 6 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by an infant son, Ronald Dean Ruhde; and by two brothers, Herman and Henry Ruhde.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice, of Manning; his daughter, Roxanne and her husband, Randy Collins, of Warrensburg, Missouri; his son, Russell Ruhde and his wife, Deborah, of Hinton; two grandchildren, Stuart Collins and Amy Ruhde; a brother, William Ruhde, of Manilla; a sister-in-law, Bertha Ruhde, of Manning; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.


Emil Ruhde is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
