Mr. Martens, who was born on a farm in Hayes Township on December 8, 1881, was active until the time of his death, although he had suffered previous heart attacks.
He was married to Melinda Mundt, who died in 1926. The present Mrs. Martens was Anna (Jansen) the former Mrs. Herman Joens.
Mr. Martens is survived by four children, Dorothy (Mrs. Carl) Schrum, Irene (Mrs. Eddie) Meggers and Virtus of Manning, and Clarence of Denver. He is survived also by two step-daughters, Lucille (Mrs. Ralph) Monson and Lillian (Mrs. Lester) Andresen of Manning, a sister, Emelia (Mrs. Dick) Fonken and four brothers, William of Manning, Henry and Gus of Carroll, and Harry of Buck Grove.
He was preceded in death by a son, Earl, who was killed in action in World War II.
Funeral services have not been arranged but probably will be
at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
