EMALINE MARIE (THIEDE) OSSENKOP

Emaline Marie Ossenkop was born May 3, 1917, the daughter of Louie and Ella (Hansen) Thiede. She passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 93.

Emaline was born in Wheeler Township near Kiron, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on June 24, 1917, at St. John Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, near Deloit, Iowa, and also confirmed there on May 31, 1931. Emaline attended Wheeler Township School through the eighth grade. She worked in Denison homes and a cafe before marrying Earl Ossenkop on October 8, 1940, at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children. They farmed for 35 years near Westside, Denison, and Charter Oak Iowa, before retiring to Denison. She then worked part-time at Crawford County Hospital and the Denison High School until she fully retired at the age of 66.

Emaline was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. As a member of their Ladies Aid group for over 40 years, she always participated in the activities. Emaline also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, dancing, playing cards, and attending community events. She established many life-long friendships and acquaintances, having lived in this area her entire life.

Emaline was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Jane; three brothers: Loren in infancy; Clement; and Louis; two sisters: Maves in infancy; and MayDelle and her husband, Ivan; and one brother-in-law, Jim. Survivors include her husband, Earl; two daughters: Judy and her husband, Merle; Connie and her husband, Dale; one son Curtis and his wife, Denise; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis; two sisters-in-law: Lorene and Janice; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and graveside rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Garden in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," "Be Still My Soul," and "Beautiful Savior" and Eldon Hardekopf sang "Peace In The Valley." Honorary pallbearers were Sheri Grothe, Lori Oeser, and Joni Wilken. Serving as pallbearers were Andrew Ossenkop, Matthew Wilken, Michael Wilken, Jason Ossenkop, Marty Wilken, Joe Grothe, and Gregg Oeser. The family invited everyone to return to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
