A funeral service for Elvira Meggers, 94, of Westside will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 1995, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with the Rev. Steven Stork officiating.
Mrs. Meggers died Saturday, November 11, 1995, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
Casket bearers will be David L. Meggers, Larry D. Meggers, Dennis D. Meggers, Douglas W. Ehlers, Dwight D. Ehlers, Mark Schurke, Joel Owen, and Tom Berg. Honorary casket bearers will be Debra Owen, Diane Schurke, Darlys Berg, Alison Ehlers, Denise Ehlers, Donna Ehlers, Wendy Meggers, Sue Meggers, and Jeanette Meggers.
Burial will be in the Manning City Cemetery.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 tonight at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.
A daughter of William and Dorothea (Klautke) Gruhn, she was born July 18, 1901, near Manning. She attended rural schools near her home. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
On October 3, 1923, she married William F. Meggers. They farmed in the Manning area, moving to Westside in 1948. She continued to live at Westside after her husband died in 1984. Mrs. Meggers moved to the Eventide Home in Denison in 1993.
Mrs. Meggers was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. She also held memberships in the Westside and Arcadia Cemetery associations and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons: William Meggers of Westside and Duane Meggers and his wife, Luetta, of Westside; a daughter, Dorothea Ehlers and her husband, Wilbert, of Arcadia; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Herb Rowedder of Manning; and two sisters-in-law, Luella Gruhn of Manning, and Anna Fries of Ida Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Edward; a grandson, Allen Ehlers; two sisters: Augusta Lamp and Dora Struve; and five brothers: William, Fred, Paul, Max, and H.K. "Charlie."
