Elsie Schafer

Elsie Katherine Louise Schafer, 74, H2 Randolph St. Napa, died Friday, October 16, 1970, in Vallejo. She was born November 17, 1895, in Manning, Iowa, a daughter of Fredrick and Sophia (Ketelsen) Polzin. She was educated in Manning, Iowa, and Netawaka, Kansas, and attended Business College in Twin Falls, Idaho.

In 1923, she married Walter A. Schafer in Napa and he later died. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Napa and belonged to the California Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include three sons, Walter A. Schafer, Napa; William E. Schafer, and Robert A. Schafer, both of Sacramento; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur H. Polzin, Fredrick C. Polzin, and Victor E. Polzin, all of Napa; and five sisters, Mrs. Hannah C. Schulte, Mrs. Bertha P. Cearley, Mrs. Clara M. Wright, Mrs. Irene L. Hosman, and Mrs. Ruth M. Donker, all of Napa.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services at the Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St., Napa, Tuesday at 1 p.m., with Pastor Leon L. Bauer of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer officiating.

Interment will be in the Tulocay Cemetery, Napa, California.
