Else Magdalena, daughter of Henrich and Maria (Siggelka) Joens, was born July 14, 1894, at Aspinwall, Iowa. She graduated from Manning High School in 1913 and taught country school. She married Peter Struve on December 17, 1919, in Manning, Iowa, where she has since resided. She was employed by the Manning Trust and Savings Bank for 31 years. Throughout her life Else was a member of the Presbyterian Guild and for many years was a member of the Garden Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Else was one of the first residents at the Elm Crest Apartments after she gave up her home and she entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in 1984 due to failing health. She died there on Sunday, June 26, 1988, at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 12 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Peter; by two brothers, Freddie Joens and Henry Joens; and by three sisters, Alma Mickle, Ann Struve, and Hertha Jensen.
Else is survived by her son, Donald Struve and his wife, Dorothy, of Fort Dodge; by two grandchildren: Julie and her husband, Joseph Anderson, of El Paso, Texas and Mary and her husband, Gary Moore, of Fort Dodge; by five great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, and Jocelyn Anderson, of El Paso, Texas, and Nicholas and Jonathan Moore, of Fort Dodge; by one sister, Loleeta Cox, of Englewood, Colorado; and by many other relatives and friends.
