ELMER AUGUST RICHARDS

Funeral services for Elmer August Richards were held at 11:00 a.m. February 1, 1973, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Rev. Don Griffin of the United Methodist Church officiated with burial in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Richards were: Frank Knueven, Merlyn Zubrod, Henry Schenkelberg, Don Kasperbauer, Jack Lorenzen and Frank Handlos.

Elmer August Richards, 72, the son of Herman and Augusta (Kempf) Richards, was born February 10, 1899, in Lindsey, Nebraska. In 1906 he moved to a farm twelve miles west of Albion, Nebraska, where he attended the Red School. In October of 1928 he came to Iowa and worked on various farms around Manning. He was married on November 24, 1930, to Elvia Struve at Albion, Nebraska. After their marriage, they farmed near Manning and Schleswig until 1945 when they moved to a farm east of Manning. This was their home until moving to Manning two years ago. Elmer died suddenly Sunday afternoon, January 28, 1973, near his home in Manning.

Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife Elvia; two sons Robert and William, both of Huntsville, Alabama, one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Joyce) Vento, Brooklyn, New York; seven grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ida Struve, Manning; and the following brothers and sisters: Otto Richards, Albion, Nebraska; Edward Richards, Orchard, Nebraska; Mayne Richards, Albion, Nebraska; and Mrs. Margaret Cranucci, San Francisco, California.
