Services for Ella A. Simpson, 85 (1901 - June 1986), of Rapid City, South Dakota, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City. The Rev. Raymond Hartwig will officiate.
A second service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, South Dakota, with the Rev. Hartwig and the Rev. Roger Stauffer officiating.
Visitation will be held at Behrens Mortuary Tuesday from noon until 8 p.m. and at the church before the Wednesday service. At Wessington Springs, visitation will be held at Basham Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and an hour before the funeral service at the church. Burial will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs.
She died Monday at home in Rapid City. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Simpson was born on October 30, 1901, in Manning, Iowa, to Adolph and Albertine (Borkowski) Elias. She came to Wessington Springs with her parents. She married Tom Simpson in October of 1928, and the couple settled in Rapid City.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City and was employed at Dusek's Furniture Exchange for 23 years as an upholsterer.
Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Emma Borkowski of Wessington Springs, and Anna Paddick of White Lake South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
