Death of Ella Schoening

Miss Ella Schoening, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Schoening, was born September 5, 1886, and died on Nov. 2, 1917, aged 31 years, 1 month and 27 days.

Besides a sorrowing father and mother she leaves the following sisters and brothers to mourn her death: Ferdinand Schoening, Manning: Mrs. C.H. Harden, Plato, Iowa; Albert Schoening, Manning; Emma of Des Moines; Augusta, of Atlantic; August, of Camp Lewis, Wash.; Erna, of Des Moines; Robert, of Ft. Kamehamha, Hawaii; Mrs. A.G. Gordan, of Cedar Rapids; and Frieda of Manning. She also has two brothers and three sisters who have already passed to the great beyond.

She grew to womanhood in Manning but spent little of the past ten years here. She was a victim of the dreaded tuberculosis, contracted as she was caring for one, afflicted with that disease. Coming home from the west in June, she realized she was soon to depart from this earth. During the past two months she has been practically bedfast, and although approaching the end, was cheerful and made the best of the situation.

The funeral was held Monday in the M. E. church, Rev. Illsley, pastor of the church, and Rev. Krumm, pastor of the German Lutheran Evangelical church, conducting the services. Burial took place in the Manning cemetery.

All the brothers were present except Robert and August who are serving America as U.S. soldiers. One is thousands of miles away in the Hawaii islands and the other is in Washington State. The sisters were all present. There were also present her brother-in-law, A.R. Gordan of Cedar Rapids and J.H. Schoening, an uncle, of Denison.

The funeral was a sad one and very largely attended. The, deceased had many friends here and her death is universally mourned by those who knew her. She was a fine young woman and her loss is great not only to her relatives but to her numerous friends. Those sorrowing can feel that their many friends sympathize keenly with them in their sorrow.

Ella Schoening is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
