Elizabeth Vollmer OBITUARY.
December 14, 1911 Manning Monitor

Died at the home of her daughter Mrs. John Pexa, of Fordyce, Nebraska, Sunday night Mrs. Elizabeth Vollmer at the age of 67 years 10 months and 13 days. The deceased was born in 1844 in Kinsback, Germany, and came to New York when a girl of 12 years. Here she remained five years, coming to Guttenberg, Clayton County, Iowa. In 1860 she was united in marriage to Micheal Vollmer. To this union 10 children were born, all living and all present at the time of her death. She also leaves to mourn her departure 61 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Vollmer was a most patient sufferer for the past three weeks, and within a few hours of her death was conscious and thoughtful of the comforts of others. Occasionally she called for certain members of the family to give friendly advice or details as to her funeral. She was a good worker and sincere member of the Catholic Church, and enjoyed the last rites of the church to the fullest, being conscious and able to join in praying which was a consolation to her and her family.

She has been a widow for the past twenty years in which time she rendered much needful help, during sickness always being first to give capable aid. For the last seven years she has made her home with her youngest daughter Mrs. J.J. Pexa, and during this time making frequent visits with all her children. In the past two years she has lived in Fordyce, and in this time has made hosts of friends who were so kind to help in her last sickness. A trained nurse was constantly with her, and doctors did all within their power to help her back to life but their untiring efforts were of no avail. At 2:30 Saturday afternoon she asked for her children who with her two brothers were able to be with her, and calmly and resignedly bid them farewell asking them all to continue their good and sincere church work, even telling, the little grand children to be faithful in their prayers, after which she fell into a calm and deep sleep arousing but once before the last which came without pain or struggle. Many are the aching hearts that deeply feel the loss of one whose life has been so much service.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we love is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.

The remains of Mrs. Vollmer were taken to Templeton, Iowa, for interment, that place being her former home.
Services were held at the Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, Father Schulte officiating. Afterwards the body was taken to the Catholic Cemetery where it was laid to rest.
