Elaine Prebeck
Mass of Christian Burial was held for Elaine Prebeck at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton, Iowa on Friday, December 8, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Father Dale Reiff was Celebrant. Eucharistic Ministers were Danielle Prebeck and Donna and Joea Kemper. Gift bearers were Amanda Nichols, Kindra and Danielle Prebeck. Lector was Joe Schwaller and mass servers were Chase, Jared and Jacob Prebeck. Music was provided by the congregation and Sacred Heart Men's Choir with Leonette Irlbeck as organist. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton, Iowa with Eugene Prebeck, David Prebeck, Dale Prebeck, Bill Prebeck, Randy Prebeck, and Jon Prebeck as casketbearers. A Catholic Daughters of the Americas prayer service was held Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Reverend Father Dale Reiff officiated.
Elaine Ann, daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth (Fangman) Lechtenberg, was born September 22, 1926, on the farm between Templeton and Manning, Iowa. She grew up in the area and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1944. After graduation she helped her family on the farm.
On May 10, 1949, Elaine was united in marriage with Alphonse "Allie" Prebeck at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. Seven sons were born to this union. The couple made their home on a farm west of Templeton before moving into the present family home in Templeton in 1961. In addition to being a busy farm wife and mother, Elaine worked for a time for Templeton Telephone Company as an operator and was the bookkeeper for their business, Prebeck Construction. When Allie fell ill in 2000, Elaine took care of him until his death in 2002.
Elaine was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Templeton and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was active in the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild and was an Altar Angel. Elaine volunteered at the Hausbarn/Heritage Park in Manning. She was an avid walker and only icy streets kept her from her daily walk. Elaine loved to be involved in her children and grandchildren's lives. She also enjoyed playing cards, crocheting Afghans and carefully tending her lawn.
Following a six-month battle with cancer, Elaine died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center on Tuesday morning, December 5, 2006, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 13 days.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allie; sons Joseph Prebeck in infancy and Daniel Prebeck; and brother Alois Lechtenberg.
Elaine is survived by five sons: Eugenie Prebeck and wife Eileen of Templeton: David Prebeck and wife Kathy of Fort Dodge; Dale Prebeck of Templeton; Bill Prebeck and wife Karen of Templeton; Randy Prebeck and wife Joanna of Johnston; seven grandchildren: Amanda and husband Brandon Nichols, Jon, Kindra, Danielle, Chase, Jared and Jacob Prebeck; great granddaughter Madison Nichols; sister Ruth Kisgen and brother Dan Lechtenberg, both of Templeton; sister-in-law Elaine Lechtenberg of Denison; other relatives and friends.
Ohde Funeral Home was in Manning in charge of arrangements.
