Edvin W. Richards, 88

Edvin W. Richards was born September 18, 1861, at North Manchester, Indiana. In about the year 1881, he came to Irwin, Iowa, in which vicinity he lived the balance of his life. January 13, 1887, he was married to Miss Sophia Amelia Constable.

Five children were born to this union, Fremont and George, both of Irwin, Clara Madison of Avoca, Lillie who passed away in infancy, and Nelly, who passed away in 1918. Sophia A. Constable Richards passed away May 12, 1900.

Edvin W. Richards and Minnie V. Wheeler were married October 6, 1900.

Mrs. Minnie Wheeler had four children with her previous husband, Thomas Wheeler, who died March 3, 1895. These children are Albert, Minnie Mae, and Corrine, and Annie who died in infancy.

Five children were born to Edvin and Minnie: Edna Carl of Harlan; Joe, Elmo, and Harold of Irwin; and Wayne of Council Bluffs.

During his life in Iowa, he farmed for two years northeast of Irwin after which he served the community of Irwin in business as a blacksmith for about 27 years. He was sexton of the Oak Hill Cemetery for eight years He was charter member of the Irwin Church of Christ. For several years he sang in the choir.

Survivors include eight children, three step-children 17 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Richards died at his home, May 2, 1950, in Irwin at the age of eighty-eight years, seven months, and fourteen days of age.

Funeral services were held at the Irwin Church of Christ with C.M. Potter officiating. Burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
