Earl Stribe

Earl George Henry, son of Charles and Rose Sievers Stribe, was born November 15, 1912, in Washington Township, Carroll County, lowa. He received his elementary education in country school and continued his education at Manning High School. At nine years of age, his parents established a set of buildings on the Stribe land. This is where Earl grew up and helped his parents farm. His father passed away in 1938, and Earl continued to farm with his mother.

On August 20, 1941, Earl was united in marriage with Garnet Elias at her parents' home near Westside. They made their home on the family farm, purchasing it in 1948. Earl's heart and soul were in farming. When they moved to Manning in 1974, he continued to spend much of his time on the farm, and enjoyed lending a hand participating in the farm activities. Earl loved the land and life in the country and became very adept at cloud watching and weather forecasting. He also kept daily records of the grain and livestock markets. Earl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning, where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed being home with his family, especially his grandchildren.

On August 10, 2001, Earl became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. He died peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2002, following a five-year battle with cancer. He was 89 years, I I months and 3 days of age.

Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a sister, Vera and husband Jack Budde; five brothers-in-law: Howard Wood, Selmer Hodne, Wilbert Elias, Earl Elias and Walter Hargens; and a sister-inlaw, Pauline and husband, Roy Kruse.

He is survived by his wife Garnet Stribe of Manning; two sons, Russell Stribe and wife, Judi of Manning and Dr. Richard Stribe and wife, Diane of Webster City; five grandchildren: Daniel and Janelle of Ames. Nancy of Ames, and Mary and Melissa of Webster City; two sisters, Arlene Wood of Moville and Phyllis Hodne of Manilla; two sisters-in-law. Ruth Hargens of Spirit Lake and Lavon Mangels of Spencer; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

A time to kill, and a time to heal, and a time to break down, and a time to build up:

A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance,

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.

A time to get, and a time to lose, and a time keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Eccl. 3:1-8
