Earl Edward "Dutch" Roberts, 67, of Manning, a salesman and musician, died Wednesday afternoon, November 29, 1967, at Manning General Hospital after a long illness. Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Ohde Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Robert Rushing officiating. Ray Pratt will be soloist; Mrs. H.W. Hagedorn, organist.
Pallbearers will be Rufus Sheldon of Hornick; Joe Sheldon, Sioux City; Clarence Barten, Manning; Leonard Rupiper, Templeton; Leo Daeges and Leonard Schechinger, Carroll. Masonic graveside rites will be given by Manual Lodge No. 450, A.F. and A.M., of which he was a member. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Roberts was born March 5, 1900, at Gray, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roberts. He moved with his family to Dedham as a small child, and graduated from Dedham High School. A professional musician, he played with the Pete Kuhl Orchestra for seven years, and for the past 31 years with the Leo Daeges Orchestra. He was a life member of the American Federation of Musicians.
He was married to Clethus Jordan in 1927. They moved to Manning in 1931, and Mr. Roberts was an auto salesman for F.D. Ross and Company. From 1941 until 1948 he operated a cream, egg and poultry business; and since 1948, he had been a sales representative for Murphy Products, Inc., of Burlington, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning. Surviving are his wife; a son, William, of Burlington, Wisconsin; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Ellen) Eastman, Charles City, and Iva Roberts of Dedham; and two brothers, George Roberts, Dedham, and Milo Roberts, Coon Rapids. A sister, Mrs. Leo (Edith) Barrett of Dedham preceded him in death.
