Born on October 17, 1932, to William F. And Elvira (Gruhn) Meggers, Duane graduated from Westside High School in 1950. Following graduation he entered the service where he served in the Korean War and returned to Westside and attended classes at Iowa State University. Duane married Luetta Mareah Johnson on October 8, 1955. They were blessed with four children; David, Larry, Dennis and Wendy. Duane farmed south of Westside and Vail into the early 1980s. Prior to farming full-time Duane was employed by FS in Westside. After farming he was employed full-time with Petersen Manufacturing of Denison and then Arcadia Limestone into the early 2000s when he retired.

Duane & Luetta moved to Westside in 1984 and resided there until September 2016 when they moved to Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, to an assisted living facility and to be closer to one of their children.

Duane enjoyed spending time outside, horses, fishing, taking day drives around the country with Luetta and spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible. He loved tinkering with anything he could fix and could often be found outside on his riding lawn mower doing more talking with friends and neighbors than actually mowing.

In addition Duane served as an Ar-We-Va school board member and past president of the Pruter Plaza board in Westside, Iowa.

Duane is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Luetta; children: David (Jeanette) Meggers of St. Louis, Missouri, Larry Meggers of Truro, Iowa, Dennis (Sue) Meggers of Truro, Iowa, and Wendy (Kelvin) Grasz of Blair, Nebraska; grandchildren: Philip (Becky) Meggers, Omaha, Nebraska, Kristina (Nate) Paul, St. Louis, Mo, Emily (Jeff) Gearig Montpelier, Ohio, Casey (Briana) Meggers, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Marcia (Kyle) Forsyth, Sunderland, Ontario.
