He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene and Jean (Warnke) Wiese, who live a mile east and a half mile south of Manning. The boy was watching television in a basement room while his father was outside and his mother was in town shopping. When Mrs. Wiese returned, she could not enter because of the smoke and heat.
Douglas was taken to Manning General Hospital, where he failed to respond to treatment.
The Manning Fire Department put out the fire. The house was damaged by smoke and heat in excess of $5,000. The basement was burned out.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church here. The Rev. Carl Sinning will officiate and burial will be in the Manning Cemetery, in charge of the Ohde Funeral Home.
