Dorothy Subbert
Dorothy A. Subbert, age 90, of Carroll passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Eventide Nursing Home in Denison.

Born on January 2, 1923, on her family's farm near Wall Lake, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Jenny (Schoneboom) Rohde. She was raised on the family farm and attended school at Wall Lake. She was married to Howard Subbert on June 11, 1941, in Carroll. In her younger years Dorothy worked for J.C. Penny and she also worked at an eggplant grading eggs. Dorothy and Howard owned and operated Subbert's Drive Inn Restaurant in Carroll and they also owned Clearwater Landing Resort in Annandale, Minnesota for several years. She later did volunteer work for New Hope Village Store. She was member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Dorothy enjoyed spending with her family, time outdoors, walking, cooking, visiting with her neighbors, and playing cards.

Dorothy is survived by a son Ronald Subbert and his wife Karolyn of Muscatine; a daughter Vicki Borcherding and her husband Bud of Denison; five grandchildren: Jeff Subbert and his wife Twyla of Muscatine, Scott Borcherding and his fiancé Christine Griemsmann of Ringgold, Georgia, Christopher Subbert of Iowa City, Karleen Brauns and her husband Bryan of Libertyville, Illinois, and Mark Subbert and his wife Wendy of Muscatine; six great grandchildren: Sara, Katelynn and Darion Subbert and Rachel, Emma and Jacob Brauns; a brother Wilbert Rohde and his wife Cecilia of Wall Lake; a sister Berneta Carstenson of Wall Lake; a brother Duane Rohde and his wife Ardell of Lake View; a brother Marvin Rohde and his wife Helen of Lake View; three sisters-in-law: Arlene Kusel of Manning, Jeanette Lerssen of Manning and Phyllis Subbert of Glidden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1986, a sister Orlean Dozark and her husband Melvin, a sister Roma Blum and her husband Francis, a brother Lester Rohde and his wife Wynona, and a brother Gorden in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Dorothy's niece Carlys Stribe and the congregation will sing "How Great Thou Art", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "In The Garden". Casket bearers will be Jeff Subbert, Mark Subbert, Christopher Subbert, Kurt Lerssen, Al Bock, and Roger Bock. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
