DOROTHY M. SCHULTZ

Mass of the Christian burial for Dorothy M. Schultz was held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 10, 1994, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Father Ralph Reinhart officiated the services.

Mrs. Schultz died unexpectedly Friday, January 7, 1994, at home in Manning.

Casket bearers were Merlyn Irlbeck, Ervin Bauer, Ted Morris, Larry Hinners, John Heinicke, and Orland Fara.

Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning handled arrangements.

Born February 7, 1925, in Dakota City, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Henry and Agnes Marie (Lee) Lowry. She grew up in the Sioux City area, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Sioux City.

On August 12, 1944, she married Carl Schultz at St. Michael's Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They lived several places in Nebraska and South Dakota before moving to Manning in 1966.

Mrs. Schultz was a homemaker most of her life, and she also received training as an activities coordinator and took Emergency Medical Training. She worked at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home and served on the Manning EMT team for many years. In 1986, she retired from her work at the Plaza and operated a day care in her daughter's home in Omaha, Nebraska, for five years.

In 1993, Mrs. Schultz started working part-time for the congregate meal program in Manning.

Mrs. Schultz was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning, where she was a lector and was serving as financial secretary for Catholic Daughters of Americas. She was also active in the CCD religion program.

Survivors include eight sons, Byron Schultz and his wife, Jean, of Grimes, Iowa; Kevin Schultz of Carroll; David Schultz and his wife, Karen of Thornton, Colorado; Greg Schultz and Anne Wulff of Woodbine, Aaron Schultz and Dorie Torres of Council Bluffs, Tony Schultz of Council Bluffs, and Terry Schultz and his wife, Camy, of Manning; four daughters, Rosie Jones and her husband, David, of Atlantic, Iowa; Rita Sterkel and her husband, Jerry, of Omaha; Rhonda Schultz of Atlantic; and Johna Belling and her husband, Jeff, of Omaha; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters. Nellie Preston of Sioux City and Deanna VonEye and her husband, Leonard, of Gann Valley, South Dakota; a brother, Raymond Mettler and his wife, Shirley, of Menno, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Marian Meyer of Lane, South Dakota; and Grace Schultz of Glendale, Arizona; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1975; her parents; and four brothers, Glen Hilton, Jim Meyer, Walt Peck, and Art Lowry.
