MANNING - Dorothy L. Schrum, 68, died Thursday, April 23, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, following a brief illness.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, with the Rev. Charles Haake officiating.

Burial will be in the Manning City Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Ivan Wurr, Virgil Reid, Ward Jensen, Russ Frank, Herb Bruhn, and Ralph Grundmeier.

Honorary casketbearers will be Glen Steinke, Bill Brus, Gib Peters, and Wayne "Butch" Jensen.

Visitation will be after 2:30 today at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Survivors include four children: Carlene and her husband, Roger Stoffers of Fremont, California; Kenneth Schrum and his wife, Cyla, of Catoosa, Oklahoma; Arlen Schrum and his wife, Jean, of Des Moines; and Darlys Bauer of Denison; eight grandchildren; a brother, Virtus Martens and his wife, Evelyn, of Manning, a step-sister, Lillian Andresen and her husband, Lester, of Manning; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Doris Martens of Arvada, Colorado; Vern Tiefenthaler and his wife, Helen, of Halbur; Delmas Schrum and his wife, Jeanette, of Atlantic; and Darlene Schrum of Manning.

She was preceded in death by her husband: parents; a step-mother, Anna (Jansen) Joens-Martens: a sister, Irene Martens Meggers; three brothers: Earl Martens, Clarence Martens, and Edwin Martens; a step-sister, Lucille Monson, and a son-in-law, Robert Bauer.

Mrs. Schrum was born April 10, 1919, on a farm north of Manning, the daughter of Emil and Malinda (Mundt) Martens.

She attended country schools and the Manning school.

On July 12, 1939, she was married to Carl Schrum at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, by Pastor John Ansorge.

They had four children: Carlene, Kenneth, Arlen, and Darlys. They farmed near Manning for many years and made their home in Manning after 1969.

She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and several women's organizations, including the Dorcas Society. She quilted for the Lutheran World Relief and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was active in the Homemakers Club and in later years spent much time as a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center in Manning.


Dorothy Schrum is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
