Dorothy Ann, daughter of Harry and Catherine (Dalgety) Petersen, was born October 13, 1921, and raised on a farm north of Manning, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1939.

On July 19, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage with Glenn Rowedder at the Presbyterian Manse in Manning. Four children were born to this union. In 1944, they began farming and raising Duroc hogs north of the Manning-Manilla Golf Course, where they lived for 25 years and raised their family. Besides the household and child-rearing chores, Dorothy worked side by side with Glenn on the farm and later on carpentry jobs. In 1969, Glenn and Dorothy purchased a lot in south Manning to build their new home which they enjoyed for many years.

Dorothy was truly a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout the years Dorothy enjoyed entertaining family, friends and neighbors and shared her favorites with all. Her specialties of potato salad, peppernuts, sugar and chocolate chip cookies were generously shared. She stayed active with babysitting, sporting events of her children and grandchildren, and embroidering tea towels, but one of her favorite past-times was playing cards, and her spirit for competition remained constant.

Dorothy was a charter member of the neighborhood Happy Hour Club, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, an active member of the United Methodist Church in Manning where she taught Sunday School and served in every officer position of the United Methodist Women. She was given the Special Mission Recognition Award which gave her lifetime membership in the United Methodist Women Organization.

On Friday, February 8, 2013, Dorothy passed away at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, following a short stay at the Manning Plaza. She was ninety-one years old.

Dorothy is survived by four children: Karen Rowedder of Manning; Larry Rowedder and wife Nancy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Myra Lisk and husband Jim of Greenfield; and Allen Rowedder and wife Gretchen of Jefferson. Six grandchildren: Tammy Anderson; Michael Rowedder and wife Gina; Jackie Rowedder; Tracy Rowedder and wife Jennifer; Heather Lansman and husband Dean; Kristen Tarpley and husband Clay. Seven great-grandchildren: Jessica, Alli, Blake, Brody, Bailey, Morgan and Logan; one great-great-grandson Carlos; sister Jan McConnell and husband Dick of Early; brother Harold Petersen and wife Patricia of Sequim, Washington; sister-in-law Grace Petersen of Marion; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Glenn of 72 years plus, her parents and her brother Ralph.

A Tribute to Mom
When we were younger, we had no idea how hard it was to be a Mom.

We didn't realize the amount of work that went into keeping everything running smoothly, or how much time was spent taking care of us.

We never thought about the dreams you put on hold or the things you went without in order to be the kind of mom whose family always came first.

It never occurred to us then that there must have been times when you didn't have all the answers.

Because, as far as we could tell, you always knew what to do.

And, now that we are older, we can really appreciate just what a great Mom you've always been
