Dorothy Catherine Rix

Funeral services for Dorothy Catherine Rix were held Saturday, February 12, 1994, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Fern Jensen as organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery with Stan Daiker, Roger Hinz, Barry Peterson, Steve Daiker, Ron "Bo" Larrington, and Ben Dailey as casketbearers.

Dorothy, daughter of Augustus and Emma (Ewoldt) Kuhl, was born April 16, 1903, at Botna, Iowa. She attended rural schools and then worked as a telephone operator in Manning.

On June 4, 1930, Dorothy was united in marriage with Harry H. Rix at Harlan. Two children were born to this union. They lived in Manning where Dorothy was a homemaker, however after her children were older she worked at the telephone office and did a lot of babysitting. Harry died in December of 1987.

Dorothy's family was of the utmost importance to her. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and tatting. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and its women's organizations.

Dorothy became ill early Wednesday and entered the Manning General Hospital. Later in the day she was transferred to Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines where she died early Thursday, February 10, 1994, at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Lynn, in 1980 and by five sisters: Emma Engel, Hilda Huckins, Donna Hansen, Vera Vergloff, and Laura Myrtue.

Survivors include her daughter, Rose Ann and her husband, Elmer Daiker, of Carroll; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Anna Gum, of Pueblo, Colorado; a brother, Willis Myrtue and his wife, Alice, of Harlan; a brother-in-law, Art Rix and his wife, Ila, of Manning; two sisters-in-law; Elsie Rix of Manning and Florence Rix of Portland Oregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
