FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. STRUVE HELD AT MANNING
Manning (THNS) - Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothea Struve, 88, were held in
the Ohde Funeral Chapel here at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Arthur
Raeside of the Presbyterian Church conducted the final rites. Burial was in the
Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were George B. Jones, Arthur Bock, Lloyd Rix,
John J. Struve, Albert Puck and Ernest D. Sutherland. Music was furnished by a
quartet consisting of Martha (Mrs. Nicholas C.) Schrum, Emma (Mrs. Albert) Dietz, Herman C. Pahde and
Clifford Manning Johnson with Mrs. Bonita Hagedorn at the organ.
Mrs. Struve was born Dorothea Wunderlich, September 11, 1855, in Delve, Schleswig - Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Jurgen and Dorothea Wunderlich. From early childhood she was afflicted with poor eyesight that hindered her education. She was married February 16, 1883, to Claus Struve and came with him to America landing in March of the same year. Mr. and Mrs. Struve settled on a farm three miles east of Manning and lived there until the fall of 1915 when, after a return visit to Germany, they moved to Manning.
To them were born four children, three sons, and a daughter who died in infancy. Mrs. Struve has been preceded in her death by her husband who died January 10, 1921, and three brothers and two sisters. Those surviving include her three sons, a sister, Mrs. Fred Bartels of Los Angeles, California, a half-brother, T.D. Wunderlich of Hadley, Minnesota, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Struve passed away Monday afternoon at the Lulu Jahn Nursing Home in Denison where she had been the past year. A great-grandson was born on the day of her death when a son was born to her granddaughter, Mrs. Harley Petersen of Harlan, the former Eldora Struve, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Struve.
