DORA STRUVE
Funeral services for Dora Struve were held Saturday, December 30, 1989, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with music provided by the Zion Lutheran Quartet and Paula Weiss as organist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery in Manning, Iowa with Galen Struve, Curtis Struve, Lonnie Jensen, Pat Barry, Kevin Struve and Kyle Jensen as casketbearers.

Dora, daughter of William and Dorothea (Klautke) Gruhn, was born April 6, 1893, in Kirkman, Iowa. The same year, on May 14, she was baptized into the Lutheran faith. Dora attended country school near her home and on April 4, 1909 was confirmed. May 27, 1914, Dora was united in marriage with George Struve at Manning, Iowa. They farmed on the Struve home farm where they raised purebred shorthorn cattle. Dora enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their children. When George retired in 1949 they moved to Carroll where George died on November 8, 1973. Shortly after her husband's death Dora moved back to Manning and after a number of years, on October 13, 1980, entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Dora had been in failing health for a number of years before her death on Sunday, December 24, 1989, at the Manning Plaza at the age of 96 years. 8 months and 18 days.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; by a grandson, Cory Struve in 1983; by four brothers: William, Jr., Fred, Paul, and Max Gruhn; and by a sister, Augusta Lamp.

Dora is survived by her children: Ralph Struve and his wife, Velma, of Irwin; Irene and her husband, C.H. "Sam" Doane, of Davenport; Glen "Red" Struve and his wife, Lois, of Manning; and Fern and her husband, Kenneth Jensen, of Manning; by 16 grandchildren; by 25 great-grandchildren; by a sister, Elvira Meggers of Westside; by a brother, H.K. "Charlie" Gruhn, of Manning; by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Luella Gruhn, of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Dora Struve is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
