Donna Jane, daughter of J.R. and Anna (Kai) Schacht was born July 31, 1928, at Aspinwall, Iowa. She attended grade school in Aspinwall and graduated from Manning High School in 1946. She then went to work for the Manning Telephone Company.

On September 21, 1949, Donna was united in marriage with Karl Mahnke in Pierre, South Dakota. Donna and Karl lived on a farm outside of Manilla. Donna worked in the dietary department at the Manilla Manor.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking and cooking. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.

In August of 1994, Donna entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where she died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at the age of 70 years.

Besides her parents, Donna is preceded in death by three sisters: Irene Armentrout, Alva Fuss, and Virgene Kuns; and her husband's parents.

Donna is survived by her husband Karl Mahnke of Manilla; one daughter Shiree Jensen and her husband Todd of Underwood; grandchildren; one brother-in-law Jack Kuns of Templeton; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
