Donald Francis, son of Francis (Frank) and Anna (Stoltz) Roecker, was born February 26, 1924, near Defiance, in Washington Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Manilla High School in 1942. After his schooling Donald worked for various farmers in the area.

On February 19, 1946, Donald was united in marriage with Joyce Hunter at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Donald and Joyce farmed near Manning and then Carroll before moving to Manning where Donald worked for the Manning Creamery. Donald then began a 41-year career as a salesman with Ralston-Purina. He worked for J&S in Manning, and then with a feed dealer in Exira before spending nearly 17 years with Juergens Produce and Feed in Carroll, and then 23 years with Empire Feed Service in Denison. Shortly after Donald retired, he and Joyce moved into Manning in 1994.

Donald was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning and in his younger days was active in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

On April 7, 1999, Donald entered the Carroll Manor Nursing Home in Carroll, where he died June 27, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He reached the age of 75 years, 4 months and 1 day.

Donald was preceded in death by his mother in 1928, his father in 1969, one brother Rolland Roecker in 1989, one brother-in-law Bill Hunter in 1959, and his father-and-mother-in-law Harold and Flossie Hunter.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Roecker of Manning; a daughter Sandie Roecker of Manning; a granddaughter Kris and her husband Mike Warrick, and their daughter Alyssa, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters: Edna and her husband Harold Schroeder of Westside & Norma and her husband Ivan Rowedder of Schleswig; his step mother Lavina Roecker of Denison; three step brothers: Norbert Roecker and his friend Joni Hiles of Denison; Marvin Roecker and his wife Linda of Phoenix, Arizona; and Kenneth Roecker and his wife Diane of Schleswig; a step sister Charla and her husband Munn Knapp of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law: Theda Roecker of Syracuse, Nebraska & Penny Hunter of Carroll; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
