Graveside services for William Don Owen will be held Thursday, August 16, 2007, at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.
William, son of Charles and Lola (Carter) Owen, was born March 22, 1913, in Audubon, Iowa. He was retired from the National Dairy.
He was preceded in death by his brother Charles.
William is survived by his wife Jeanne of Lincoln; son Bill Owen of Lincoln; grandson Cory Owen of Lincoln; granddaughter Alexus Moslander-Owen; and former daughter-in-law Judith Owen of Lincoln.
William, age 94, died Saturday, August 11, 2007.
Additional information: Don and his parents Charlie and Lola Owen lived in Audubon, Iowa. They were divorced and Don moved to Manning, Iowa, with Lola to live with her husband, Sib Livingston, a longtime resident of this area. Don started as a freshman at Manning High School in 1929 and graduated with the Manning class of 1933. He was the captain of the 1933 football team. After graduation Don worked for Robert Kuhl, owner of the Princess Cafe which was located where the present day Manning Plaza is located. After that Don worked for the Manning Creamery.
Don served a tour of duty with the Merchant Marines in 1943-44.
Don was first married to Arlene Kuhl (MHS 1934) and they had one daughter, Shannon Marie. Shannon was born in 1934 in Manning and attended Manning Kindergarten through Second Grade from 1939-1943.
Shannon married Robert Hagins who passed away from cancer in 2007. They have six children: James, Michael, Shawn, Jodean Ann, Elisse, and Ricky. Ricky was killed while serving in the Army. Jodean was an entrant from her college in Minnesota to the elimination contest for the Olympics that was held in Lincoln, Nebraska. They also have seven grandchildren: Patrick, Matthew, Michael, Nicoholas, Andrew, Haley, and Makenzie. Patrick served in the Army as a surveyor in Baghdad, Iraq. Great-grandchildren are Matthew, Adrian, Aleaha, and Isabella.
Don was preceded in death by his father Charles Owen, mother Lola Livingston, brother Charles, grandson Ricky Hagins, and son-in-law Robert Hagins.
