It was learned with, sorrow last Saturday night that Detlef Popp, one of the former well-known citizens of Manning, and a prosperous farmer of Washington Township had died that evening. He had been a victim of the dreaded Bright's Diesase for some time, but not until the last few weeks of his life did he seem in danger.
He was given every medical care and attention but of no avail and he died, Saturday evening, March 14, 1914, aged 52 years, 8 months, and 23 days.
The funeral was held from the home Tuesday afternoon, the German Lutheran minister of Arcadia, conducting the services. The funeral was largely attended showing the deep respect of all his friends for him. The body then was taken to the Hayes Township Cemetery and laid at rest.
The deceased was born in Germany, and came to America while a young man. He was the father of a large and excellent family of sons and daughters all of whom were present at the funeral. These with his wife and hundreds or friends sincerely mourn his death.
Detlef Popp was one of those good-natured, jovial men who always brought a laugh to those with whom he associated. Generous as any man could be, a true and faithful husband, a kind and affectionate father, he will be missed by those who knew him. The sorrowing relatives can feel that their many friends sorrow with the hope that some day they will again meet where there will be no more deaths or shedding of tears.
