AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS FATAL TO MANNING PEOPLE
Miss Della Rohr Dies Instantly When Car Upsets; Herbert Vehrs Dies from Injuries Received In Collision.

It is with most sincere regret that we are called upon this week, to write the obituaries of two of our most beloved, and highly respected young people, who lost their lives in automobile accidents last week.

When the reports of the sad news were spread Thursday morning, that Herbert Vehrs had been seriously injured in an automobile accident during the night in a collision, and that Miss Della Rohr had lost her life in a bad spill when the auto upset in which she was riding early Thursday morning, a pall of gloom spread over the entire community, stifling the patriotic, Independence day spirit over Manning and for many miles around. Many who had planned for pleasure drives, picnics or out-of-town amusements remained at home in reverence of the beloved ones, who so tragically lost their lives, and their families who were called upon to bear the great loss of the beloved departed.

Leaving their happy families in the best of health and with smiles on their faces, in the hopes of spending the National holiday in recreation away from work and duties, these young people were returned not very many hours later, their lips silenced, and they had spoken their last words to their beloved ones before their departure. We therefore find that it is wise to listen to the word of the All-mighty, in which He speaks: "Do not plan for your life's journey tomorrow, for ere the day you now live, closes, all plans may have been shattered and come to naught; but live each day, that the and may come at any moment, and find you ready to begin the journey into the life beyond."

Additional notices:
Della Rohr was killed when her car overturned near Manning. Theresa Sievers was riding with her.
Words cannot fittingly express my heartfelt gratitude to the kind and loving friends who, by their many acts of service and words of sympathy and cheer, have so faithfully remembered me in the hours of trial and sorrow following the terrible accident in which my dear friend Miss Della Rohr lost her life. May God's blessing be with you, and in your darkest hours, bring you comfort, as you have tried to comfort me.
Therese Sievers.
