Death of Mrs. Swearingen
After a continued illness covering several years Mrs. Martin V. Swearingen passed
peacefully away Tuesday morning. The end had been expected by her husband and near
relatives for a long time but her time was spared until now. She has lived on the farm
where she died for the past twenty-five years, about five miles northeast of town and is
known to be a good kind wise and a loving mother and neighbor. Delila (Ramage)
Swearingen was born in Holmes County Ohio, February 12, 1842, was married to Martin
V. Swearingen at Wooster Ohio, January 8th, 1861. Eleven children have been born to this
union of which nine are still living, John A., Laurens, Iowa; Mrs. Scheiber, Lake Benton,
Minnesota; Sam M. and Elmer Homick, Mrs. Della Wilson, Marshalltown; T.A., Mrs.
Pierson, Mrs. Hays, and Mrs. Adolph Grundmeier, Manning. The funeral was held this
afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M.E. Church in this city. Rev, J.N. McCurdy officiating, after
which the remains were laid to rest in the Manning Cemetery south of town.
